DIY Amazing Makeup Life Hacks

Hey, guys!

We already know you don’t need my help to be beautiful inside and out! But there’s nothing wrong with saving a little bit of time and money on your way to looking fabulous. Here are my six favorite DIY amazing makeup life hacks to help you do just that.

Gotta start at the beginning… with a good base for your face! But the worst thing is when people can TELL you’re wearing foundation. For your true color match, this is one time you shouldn’t listen to your mother. (Sorry, mom!) Swatch foundation samples on your neck, not your arm. Your arms might be a little darker due to sun exposure, which will throw off your shade matching.

And speaking of swatching on your neck… don’t forget to blend your foundation past your chin and into your neck and blend, blend, blend!

I love a good beauty blender as much as the next girl. This little makeup sponge is so versatile, it’s probably a makeup life hack all on its own. So you want to take care of it and make sure it lasts as long as possible!

How to clean your beauty blender? Put it in a cup with soap and water, then stick it in the microwave for one minute. (Thanks Desss Delores!)

Tried cleaning it but it’s still a little gross? Cut it in half with a pair of scissors! This will give the sponge a flat edge that works great for applying powder.

And finally, if you can’t find your beauty blender (or forgot to pick one up on your last Sephora or Ulta run!), reach into your sock drawer and pull out a clean fuzzy sock to use. Don’t forget to blend! And… maybe grab the matching sock and stick it in your makeup bag for future beauty emergencies!

Eyeliner is one of the best ways to make your eyes pop, but it can also be one of the hardest things to master. Don’t worry, I’ve got a makeup life hack that will change the way you look at eyeliner forever!

Or maybe it will just change the way people look at you. :)

For an amazing winged eyeliner look, grab your favorite eyeliner (I recommend a good felt-tip liner like this one from NYX), make a messy wing, then use a folded makeup wipe to wipe the eyeliner into a sharp edge. This makeup life hack works best if you do your eye makeup first so you don’t mess up the rest of your look.

Ran out of eyeliner? No worries! Your eyeshadow can do double duty. It’s easy! Wet an angle brush with water or setting spray. Dip the wet brush into your eyeshadow, then line your eyes with the brush like you would with a regular eyeliner. If you want a smokey look, wait for the wet shadow to dry. Then, gently brush a Q-tip along your lash line and… wait for it… blend the shadow until you get the smokey eye look you want.

I get it, eyeshadow is a bit daunting. All those colors, ways to wear them, and all the blending! (Do you see a theme here?) If you’re not sure where to start, I recommend a good light brown or copper shade. Brown looks good on pretty much everyone and as you experiment it will help you build confidence to create more intense looks.

And if your solid powder eyeshadow breaks, don’t panic! Just gather up the fragments, add a drop or two of rubbing alcohol, and use the back of a spoon to smash it down. This should mold your eyeshadow back together.

Nothing ruins a pretty smile faster than lipstick on your teeth! To make sure your lipstick stays on your lips, stick your finger in your mouth, wrap your lips around it, and then pull it out. Any extra lipstick will be on your finger, not on your teeth.

Oh, and it goes without saying… make sure your hands are clean first. :)

If dry, flaky lips are bothering you, it’s probably time to exfoliate them. You can buy a lip scrub at the store… or open up your cupboard and break out the sugar. Apply the sugar to your lips, rub back and forth, and wipe clean. Instant exfoliation! (And it tastes good too. Delicious!) Just make sure you use a sugar that’s textured, like white or brown sugar, not something powdery.

You gotta keep your brushes clean if you want your makeup to look good. (And if you want to avoid breakouts, ew!) This is probably my favorite makeup life hack ever! You don’t need to spend big money on fancy cleaners when you have everything you need… right in your shower.

Good old soap and water does the trick every time to get your brushes squeaky clean. I prefer using shampoo, but any soap will do. If you really want to create your own DIY makeup brush cleaner, try combining two parts soap with one part olive oil. Mix well, then use your new DIY cleaner on your makeup brushes.

Hope these tips helped you as much as they’ve helped me. I love you all so much! Stay awesome, stay sweet, and don’t forget to be nice to each other. Bye bye!
